Chow Kuey Teow

Chow Kuey Teow simply means "fried rice noodles"
One of the great enjoyments of doing this blog is that I get to know people from all over the world, including Kris, a talented photographer from Malaysia residing in Szentes, Hungary. Last week, Kris solved the mystery of "Chow Kuey Teow" for me -- the pronounciation of CKT which is a ChiuChow dialect is very close to "fried something expensive" in Cantonese dialect; and when I was small, I had wondered why adults would want an expensive fried dish. Though I had asked from time to time, nobody (that I know) seems to know what CKT really means. Of course, now I know. So, with Edwin of Kuala Lumpur Daily Photo, we are giving Kris a treat -- we are both posting photos of this popular Malaysian Chinese dish today.
I took this photo at an average Malaysian restaurant near my place, there are better places for Malaysian food in HK but I think I'll save them for next time ;-) Enjoy!

Wow! You gave her chopsticks and a drink too! I hope she enjoys herself ;)

In malay I wrote, "Have good look. Soon you'll taste it again. Don't forget to come back and visit sometime."

I think Kuey Teow is the name of the noodle but something expensive works better for me LOL!

(are those ham strips I see???)

Hi Ed, yes those are ham strips, in place of Chinese sausage I think. There are other places which use Chinese sausage and make it with dark soy sauce like the one you got, I guess this is a health-conscious version ;-)

Hi Lisi!
both of you wicked, that's what you've been planning, huh?!

i've chew that photo of Ed, hard to swallow plus he didn't give me chopsticks and yinyong (drink) LOL. Now it's time to eat your photo :D

This CKT is very diff., light in colour, plus ham. yummy looking nonetheless. I'll be sure to go Malaya Restaurant to taste it in future ;)

Very sweet of you to go through the trouble and suggesting to Edwin. You both made my day! *hugs*

hehe, I'm glad you like it! Am curious, any Asian grocery stores in Szentes? My sister lives in Salzburg and they do have Asian grocery stores there. Or is Szentes smaller than Salzburg?

Yummy ! ( or as we say in France : "Miam !")...It's lunchtime and I discover your post...I love the story of the little Lisi wandering why adults want to eat expensive food ! ...When I was a child I lived in Mexico and in a popular mariachi song I was earing and wandering why people wanted to eat rats...I still don't know the real meanning of the song !

Thank you for your visit, Lisi.
It seems there is a problem on my blog =>posts after the 4th of july have disapeared ! I don't Know if the sound was affected too, so, I am not sure what music you liked...
If you heard a solo female voice its Nora Luca "Gadjo mio" and if it was a band : The wannadies " you and me song"...
If you come back and want to know about the music, look at the bottom of the current page to find the little juke box from "radio blog"... Hope it works !

Lisi, I just visited Edwin's site. Aw! you and Edwin are really sweet! Kris would be crying over your wonderful photos. Kris, I wish we could send you the real thing!

Would love to try CKT in HK again! I cant remember the resto where we ate it but its definitely not a Malaysian resto.

All these years, I thought its Chinese!

The young Lisi story was funny! ;P

Lisi, the Hokkien (Fukien) way is "char kuey teow". Kuey teow is the clear rice noodle that is used.

Err... The HK version doesn't look as appetising.

Alright, I'm hungry for some now and it's 1.30 am!
