Yes, there is free transport from Central to mid-hill on the HK island -- the Central/Mid-levels escalators. It is 800-meter long and makes a 135-meter vertical climb/descent between Central (near the sea) to the Mid-Levels area, saving a lot of traffic along the narrow zigzag roads on the hill. The escalators go one-way uphill or downhill depending on the time of the day. See more photos on Wiki.Labels: city, Hong Kong |

I was there in April this year. I went there just to see this thing. And my questions was why they didn't build one for coming back down.
ã
Nice shot. The like the subtle motion in this photo.
ã
What a great idea. This photo really captures the ordinary people!

Santy and Chris -- yes, of course, you can go either way on the stairs but frankly, I haven't seen anybody using the stairs instead.
Mark -- the view is typical of HK, you'll see lots of concrete around you!
Michelle -- same here...and it attracts a lot of Asian tourists because of that film.
Thanks for the footprints everyone!
ã
it's pretty cool on the escalator, cos you can see those second storey cafe or bookstore...
